My name is Cory Cavin. I make my home in New York City and am a comedian, writer, and actor. I’m one half of the online comedy duo Lynn Lynn.

This is my blog. Welcome.

uncle moustache

"I cannot wait til’ next month and a new US Air magazine.

I like the way people look at u in first class. It is a mix of “FU” and “I wonder what they do.”
”

- Texts sent to me by my friend Chris who is a frequent business traveler.
This is a conglomeration of Molly Shannon, Kristen Wiig, and Amy Poehler all in one video. Exercising hasn’t been the same since the 80’s.

I am always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly...

I am always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly in my commute to and from work. Here is an idea I’m going to pitch to my boss about how I could get home easier. It would also justify my walking around the office in only tight boxer briefs. Because I do that, like, all the time.

(BTW - I read up on this commercial and coincidentally six years ago I was a PA for this director on a month long set of NASCAR commercials. I drove he and all the higher ups in production to a racetrack one day and got pulled over for speeding and got a talking to and a warning from a cop. Everyone was very cool about it and impressed with my politeness to the officer (aka, pooping myself in fear). I also ate sushi for the first time on those commercials and woke up in the middle of the night with the shakes thinking I was gonna die. Rockingham, NC is not a great place to eat a LOT of sushi for the first time.)

The Reaction 'Round The World

The Reaction 'Round The World:
The New York Times posted a photo slideshow of the reaction around the world to Obama’s victory. It’s really cool to see all different cultures reacting to our election, and I especially like this picture of Palestinians in a Gaza coffee shop watching Obama’s acceptance speech:

You also could’ve fooled me with this caption for the picture:

“Phish fans in Massachusetts celebrate the victory of marijuana decriminalization in their state at “The Jah Hut” on Kent St., and blaze out a hookah during Obama’s acceptance speech.”

For the first time in several years I had a very tame Halloween (last year I became an ACTUAL witch at a Wiccan ceremony in the woods. Not too fun. I spent the rest of the night listening to industrial goth and watching Buffy. LAME.) Anyway, I missed NYC’s craziness of Halloween while my girlfriend and I sat in and watched TV and handed out candy to kids. It was a pleasant night. The above picture is my friend Josh Goleman’s costume for his cast (which he got off yesterday - how will we smuggle things now?)

My regret for not going out was that I didn’t get to show off my costume: Eddie Krueger, Freddy Krueger’s poorer younger brother. I wore it to the door, but no kids or parents commented on it. They probably wondered why I had a fork coming out of my sweater. Well I wonder what your costume is, ya dumb 4 year old (I know that was mean but look, I’m Eddie Krueger. I am mean to little kids and enter into their dreams (only in naps - I’m less powerful than my brother)).

(Also, come to the Nightshift Launch NYC party tonight to round out your Halloween weekend!
My friends wrote a book and we’re celebrating this weekend with a launch party! THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, Nov. 1st, at Housing Works Used Books Cafe is the official launch for Nightshift NYC, a book about people working the graveyard shift in NYC, written by my two friends Russell Sharman and Cheryl Harris-Sharman.

Basically Russell and Cheryl spent a year going around the city and inerviewing all kinds of people who worked overnight hours; everyone from cab drivers to diner cooks to sex workers (zoinks!) to train conductors who drive home party crazy 20somethings and came out with some great stories. They teamed up with photographer Corey Hayes and came out with a really amazing book. We’re having readings, photo showings, and free beer and wine.

I’ll be reading a chapter about the “drunk train” that goes out to Long Island from Penn Station every night at 4am. It’s pretty hilarious and ridiculous.

Come hang out and have fun. And we can stay up all night afterwards if you want. Click on the picture above for a hi-res version of the flier or go here for details. And if you know anyone who works the nightshift (like myself) in this sleepless city bring them along with you. Should be a fun time.

More details here.

Man, first Krispy Kreme and now this! On voting day I’m...

Man, first Krispy Kreme and now this! On voting day I’m gonna be one Chunky Monkey! (PUN INTENDED!! AGAIN!!).

The thedailywhat announced this today:

Yesterday we told you about Krispy Kreme’s voting enticement.

Today, Ben & Jerry’s announced it was hopping on the Delicious Democracy bandwagon with free ice cream on election day.

Democracy and food: if there is one place that could find a way to combine the two, it’s America.

(via.)

I am also 90% sure that Ben & Jerry are both voting for the Green Party.

Krispy Kreme is giving out patriotic star shaped donuts to...

Krispy Kreme is giving out patriotic star shaped donuts to people with “I Voted” stickers on Election Day. This sweetens the deal for next Tuesday. Pun INTENDED!

I plan on bringing multiple changes of clothes to the one Krispy Kreme I know of in Manhattan for maximum patriotic donut consumption. Hopefully this doesn’t have the same effect as people trying to vote multiple times. If it does, America will have to deal. Because I like donuts, and when that Hot Light is on, nothing - not even the most important politcal moment of our times - will stop me.

I think this is the true story of Matthew Perry’s life after Studio 60 was canceled…hey-ooo!).

I looked around on the internet and surprise, I was able to find TONS of Zac Efron basketball footage - from HSM movies, to TV interviews, to new movie footage. It’s like this guy’s daily regimen is 1.) Wake up, 2.) Work on perfect anroidish good looks, 3.) Dance practice, 4.) Layups, Umbrella Defense, bounce passing, ball handling drills, wind sprints. 5.) Watch 1993 Chicago Bulls highlight tape for life inspiration.

So Josh and I made this movie trailer for BWE.tv which is the next logical step for Zac Efron’s career. Look for him soon in theaters in ALL BALL.

Aaaaand Exhale.......

Man this was a long week. A very good week and also a very crazy, busy, long one.

I finished my guest blogging stint at BestWeekEver.tv which was awesome and so much fun. I am now more in touch with pop culture and funny pictures on the internet than I was before. It was a great experience to have to write and produce a certain number of pieces a day and get to sit alongside of people who are doing the same thing (at an alarmingly fast rate….our writers are pro for real).

I also got to hone my Photoshop skills to create some pics for my posts and I now understand how putting a dumb caption on a picture can really make it view-worthy. Here are some of my favorites (click the titles for the article links):

Axl of the Apocalypse

I’m Workin’ On It!

A Poster For Blade IV

I also got to feel the sting of internet commenters (who usually tell you “ur gay!” no matter what you do) when I wrote dialog to a series of pictures of Sarah Palin and John McCain exchanging an awkward hug. I thought, “Hey, that looks awkward….” so I wrote some lines. What I didn’t realize is that, while Palin’s face in the picture shows disapptoinment and awkwardness (which was the funny part of the pictures to me, her face going from happy to flat and awkward), most people thought I was making fun of the fact that McCain probably can’t hug normally due to his past war torture wounds. Uhhh, idiot check, I’m raising my hand. I had no idea. I knew McCain had been tortured, was a war hero, and generally a very brave person, but didn’t realize that it was that extreme. Sooooo, needless to say a few people left some great comments about ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel’ for laughs when I was actually somewhere around the middle of the barrel. So that in itself was awkward and I felt bad once I realized the horrible coincidence I stumbled upon. However, I can vouch that that wasn’t a partisan attack, as I am a registered Independent. I’m only allowed to vehemently attack the Green Party.

And I wrote another post on ridonkulous looking bikes that did well on Digg (and you can Digg it again if you like, Digger Phelps).

I also had to work Thursday night doing the BWE.tv podcast that I do so I can eat, and it turned out awesome. Craig hosted and Josh was his 2001 Justin Timberlake Impersonator. Pop is a good song, and I’m a believer now (the video is in a post below - Josh can dance like a member of the Rockafire Express at Showbiz Pizza).

Also, our new Lynn Lynn video (in another post below this one as well) turned out well and is getting a good response.

Today I found out I’ll be doing some acting on Monday. All in all, what a great week. Not much sleep, but I’m really thankful. I just found $700 dollars in my fridge too. Man I couldn’t have asked for a better week. Right, Elvis? Did I mention Elvis is alive and crashing at my place?? Also, the fact that I am still blogging is ridiculous.

I’m done now. Merry weekend.

Best Night Ever for Thursday night. Josh stops by as...

Best Night Ever for Thursday night. Josh stops by as Craig’s 2001 Justin Timberlake Impersonator. Hilarity, popping, locking ensue.

I’m guest blogging at BestWeekEver.tv this week. Check it out and go leave some comments...

I’m guest blogging at BestWeekEver.tv this week. Check it out and go leave some comments like, “Wow that was an amazing post!
